Perhaps We Could All Use a Cuddle Blanket.

In years past, I used to do a lot of sewing. I enjoyed making clothing for our girls and items for our home. I don’t have the patience for it anymore. It is much easier and less time consuming to shop online, and in most instances, less expensive, too. There is one exception. I still enjoy making blankets for my grand blessings.
Last week, my Amazing Daughter #1, mentioned that Grand Blessing #3 might like a cuddle blanket. Excited to indulge that request, I headed to the fabric store and found soft, cuddly, minky fabric for the back of the blanket and flannel with trucks (GB#3’s favorite thing) for the front. It certainly was soft and cuddly.
This afternoon, Amazing Daughter #1 sent me a picture of Grand Blessing #3 in his car seat with his pacifier and the cuddle blanket I made for him. He looked so tired but was holding the cuddle blanket up to his face for comfort. That picture warmed this Nana’s heart.
Tonight, I am thinking about that cuddle blanket and to be honest, wish I had a giant one. Life is hard for so many right now. It seems I have spent some time each day for the past several weeks, wiping tears from my eyes. My heart breaks when I hear news of friends and family struggling in so many areas. Health issues, family issues, financial issues and job-related issues are everywhere. Then there is our country and every thing we are going through. It is tough!
As I was attempting to go to sleep tonight, my brain would not turn off. I was thinking about the serious situations facing so many and I thought—Life is so hard. Immediately, the rest of that line from an old song popped into my mind—but God is good. Yes, Life is hard, but God is good.
Romans 8:35-39 reminds us: “Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry or destitute, or in danger or threatened with death?...No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love…indeed nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
I am so grateful for the assurance these verses give us. Nothing can separate us from God and his love…nothing…ever! Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28: “…Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
If you are carrying heavy burdens or are tired and weary, like I am tonight, know that no matter what you and those you love are facing, God is right there with you. He loves you and will help you no matter what lies in front of you. That assurance is better than the softest cuddle blanket.
