It is almost 2 AM, and I am wide awake. My brain is on overload, thinking about all the things I have seen, heard and read during the past several days, months and years. Our world is in a colossal mess! There is so much conflicting information, that it is difficult to know what to believe. *Do I believe what I am seeing and hearing on the TV newscasts? *Do I believe what I am hearing on some of the podcasts I follow? *Do I believe what others are telling me? *Do I follow what my heart is telling me is the truth?
I am not much of a television viewer, but Sweet Husband loves his TV. He had the local NBC channel on the other day and their trusted anchors were saying that if you have questions about what you are seeing, reading or hearing and are not sure if it is true, contact them and they will verify it for you. Really? If we are not sure what we are seeing in the media is accurate, why would we contact a media personality to verify it for us? That sounds crazy to me, but it is 2021 and crazy seems to be taking over every part of our society.
It also seems there are no absolutes anymore. *Masks will protect us. *Masks are ineffective and infringing on our freedoms. *Everyone should be vaccinated. *Deciding to take the vaccine should be a personal choice, not one forced on Americans by the government or an employer. *Biden is doing the best he can as president. *Biden is the worst president in history. I could go on, but you have heard all of this and know what I am saying.
Not only do we seem to have no absolutes, but many people in our country have also lost patience with anyone who believes or thinks differently than they do. What happened to agreeing to disagree yet still respecting and being kind to each other.
Last evening, I heard someone say we need to bring back the WWJD (What would Jesus do?) bracelets that were around several years ago. He stated that in this crazy world we not only need to think about what Jesus would do and what Jesus would say in every situation, we need to model our actions and words after Jesus’ example.
I am not going to tell you what I think Jesus would do about masks, vaccines or the political upheavals in our world, but I do know what he has told us in the Bible. *Romans 12:16: Live in harmony with one another. *John 13:34-35: A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another. *1 John 4:19: We love because he first loved us. That is pretty clear. Jesus wants us to love each other no matter what we believe about vaccines, masks, politics, or any of the other topics that we deal with during our day.
God is bigger than our political issues. He is bigger than Covid-19 and the Pandemic. He is bigger than the vaccine issues. He is bigger than all of this. Do you believe it?
Several years ago, during a particularly difficult time, the phrase, “God is either God of all or he is not God at all,” kept playing over and over in my mind. I knew that as bleak as things looked, God was in control and I could trust what he was doing, even though I could not see it at the time. My thoughts are the same for our country today.
Even though Americans are all over the board on these issues, there are absolutes in our world. An important absolute in the middle of this mess we are all living in is, if God said it, he will do it. God promised us in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that if we humble ourselves and pray that he would heal our land. I believe it! He WILL heal our country. Only God is powerful enough to do this miracle. We need to stand on that promise, continue to pray and then keep believing no matter what happens.
