Happy 245th Birthday, United States! The picture on this post appeared in my timeline memories this morning from two years ago. Sweet Husband and I were in Philadelphia taking pictures for my first book series and enjoyed visiting the sites so important in our country’s history.
As I looked at this picture, three things stood out to me. 1. Sweet Husband is such a great guy! He was somewhat embarrassed to pose for this picture but did so anyway. He is a keeper! 2. The Liberty Bell rings. Did you know that every 4th of July the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia is tapped (not actually rung) thirteen times in honor of the original thirteen colonies? 3. And then there is that crack. I couldn’t stop looking at the crack. It seems symbolic to me this morning.
There are definitely cracks in our country today. There have been cracks before but Americans have always come together and, despite the cracks, our country has flourished.
The cracks we are experiencing in our great country today seem insurmountable but as a believer of what the Bible promises, I am confident good days are in front of us.
The Bible tells us in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
So many Americans are praying for our country that I am confident God will do what he promised and heal our land. It is pretty messy right now but God is a God of the impossible. As you enjoy your holiday celebrations, will you join me in asking God to heal our country?
