Are You Exhausted From Life's Battles?

Today was so much fun!! I spent the day with my youngest grand blessing, while his mom attended meetings for work. This little guy is amazing! He is seventeen months old with beautiful blue eyes and the cutest dimples around. Can you tell this Nana is in love?

After a morning of playing, he could barely keep his eyes open. We ate lunch and I tried to put him down for a nap. He was having no part of it, even though he was exhausted.

I tried rocking him like we often do. He was having no part of it, even though he was exhausted.

He loves books so I took him into our bedroom, and we laid on Nana and Papa’s bed while I read to him. He almost dozed off until he realized that he was about to go to sleep. He was having no part of sleep, even though he was exhausted.

I decided that if he wanted to play, we would. That is the fun part of being Nana—-it is OK to spoil these little blessings! We played hide and seek, crawled up and down the stairs multiple times and laughed a lot. My goal was to tire him out. He still was not interested in sleep, even though he was exhausted.

Then, suddenly, he grabbed his pacifier and started walking around the house yelling, “Papa!” He was looking for Papa, but Papa was at work. Littlest grand blessing walked over to Papa’s chair and crawled up into it. His eyes were heavy.

This little guy loves his Papa and normally Papa and he snuggle up on the Lazy Boy, watching something on Papa’s phone until he falls asleep. He knew resting in Papa’s arms was a comfortable place to relax and fall asleep.

Since Papa was not around, Nana would have to do. I picked up sweet, youngest grand blessing and we snuggled in Papa’s chair. I grabbed my phone, found some Sunday School songs on YouTube and began playing them quietly while rocking this precious little guy in my arms. He could barely keep his eyes open but was still not giving into sleep, even though he was exhausted.

Then, the song “This Is the Day That the Lord Has Made” began playing and boom. Sweet littlest grand blessing put his arm over his head, and he was out.

As I rocked him and watched him sleep, I realized there was a message in this for all of us.

Our world is a mess and, it seems, most people are fighting some sort of battle in their life. Most of us are exhausted. Just like my littlest grand blessing, many of us are fighting to stay in control and feel we cannot rest.

Just as sweet littlest grand blessing relaxed and fell asleep once he was in Papa’s chair, we too can relax and trust our Heavenly Papa to handle our battles.

Below are some of the verses from the Bible that promise peace and rest, no matter what you are going through if you give it all to your Heavenly Papa, ask for his help and rejoice in the day he has given you.

Matthew 11:28-29 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Psalm 4:8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Exodus 33:14 The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

John 16:33 Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

If you are exhausted from the battles of life, follow the advice in 1 Peter 5:7: Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

He loves you and will give you the strength you need.

Remember, no matter what your day looks like, this is the day the Lord has made. If we trust him to take care of us, we will be able to rejoice and be glad in whatever we are facing.
